I enjoy working with the community and have been fortunate to be involved
in some very exciting projects. I work with people of all ages and abilities.
The versatility of Willow makes it an ideal medium for working with the
community, be it basic weaving skills, which can be used to make simple
basket or small decorative pieces, or larger frame works for puppets and
lanterns.
August 2002 - "Stepping Out"
Lead Artist for Carnival School - Dumfries, Scotland. Working with performance
Artists and Makers to deliver workshops covering, Puppetry, Costume, Performance
and circus Skills. Workshops catered for 6 - 14 yr. olds and worked towards
a 'Grand Finale' performance.
August - September 2001 and 2002 - "St Ninian
Festival Residency"
Artist in Residence- Whithorn, Dumfries and Galloway Scotland.
Liaising with resident drama tutor to produce costumes, props and lanterns
for Youth Plays and a Procession held during the Festival. Workshops were
also provided for adults and the local youth groups to produce silk banners
and handmade paper books.
August 2002 - "Summer Art School"
Sanquhar Academy, Sanquhar Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland.
Working with two other Scottish Artists to deliver workshops in Mosaic,
Batik, Silk Painting and Costume and jewellery design, for 11- 15 year
olds.
August 2002 - "Graffiti Project"
Lochside, Dumfries and Galloway. Project working with Teenagers and Film
Artist to Produce an Animated Graffiti Film to be publicly projected.
March - August 2002 - *What's In your Head"
& "Bodies Apart"
Collaboration with Joe Hodges - Dumfries and Galloway Health Board, Scotland.
Two Projects working with Primary School children using, photography,
film, poetry, printing and body casts to describe the feelings of today's
youth. Selected work from the projects was used to create multi media
instillations.
May 2002 - "Adult Stress Relief Sessions"
Family Learning, Stranraer- Scotland. A series of Silk painting classes
as part of a regional Stress relief project.
March 2002 - "Spring Art School"
Lead Artist for Primary School Holiday Project. Working with 3 other Artist
to deliver workshops in papermaking, Silk painting, Mosaic, Batik and
felting techniques
Oct - Dec 2001 - ' Express Yourself '
Adult education classes teaching a broad range of art and craft techniques.
The acquired skills and techniques were then combined and used by individuals
to produce a piece of work reflective of themselves
October 2001 - 'Story Telling Week'
Lead Artist for Story Telling Project, Lochside New Community Schools
Centre Dumfries, Scotland. Working with four other Artists the project
provided a fun and creative approach to books and stories, this was achieved
by a broad range of Tactile and sensory stimulating activities, combining
making and performance techniques.
June 2001 - 'Celebrations'
Lead Artist on project working with a team of 4 other local Artist to
provide a week of workshops for forty-five 5 - 12 yr. old students (Lochside,
Dumfries, Scotland). The week provided a broad range of making and performance
skills, culminating in a 'Celebration Extravaganza' which incorporated
a procession through rooms representing celebrations from around the world,
ending with 'right here, right now' a celebration of the participants
themselves.
November 2000 - 'Growing Up'
Residency working with young people (4 - 16 yr. olds) from Dicks Hill
community Centre (Stranraer, Scotland) to create and publicly display
a multi media instillation representing important personal aspects about
growing up.
November 2001 - ' Water'
Over 5 sessions the members of Newton Stewart ARC of whom have varying
physical and learning disabilities, Created Felt and silk hangings, clay
'refection' pools and handmade paper to represent water in the surrounding
area.
September 2000 - 'Earth Works'
Series of workshops with primary school pupils using tactile natural materials
i.e.: seeds, berries, grass and reeds, stone of varying sizes, leaves
and flowers to produce temporary pieces of work, which were photographed
as a permanent record.
May 1999 - August 2000 - 'Sheela McGig'
Working with 3 other local artists to produce woodland art events incorporating
Instillation, interactive sculpture, costume, puppetry, performance and
film.
November 1999 - January 2000 - 'Burns Night Lantern
Procession'
Series of workshops with primary school children and various community
groups to produce basic and feature willow and tissue paper lanterns for
Robert Burns Procession in Dumfries Scotland
July - August -1997 - 'Charter 88 Velvet Revolution
Tour'
Designing making and setting up props and backdrops for musical and visual
production performed at universities and nightclubs to promote awareness
of civil rights.
